Doing the CAS PROJECT

You must be involved in at least one CAS project during your CAS programme as an IB requirement. There is no limit to how many CAS projects you become involved in - one is sufficient.

The aim of a CAS project is to ensure your participation in a sustained collaboration towards a meaningful and authentic goal.

You can also participate in someone else’s CAS project and use it as a CAS experience!

Key features of a CAS Project

Duration

A minimum of 1 month.

In our experience longer is better, but one month is the absolute minimum that allows time from planning to completion and is an IB requirement.

Collaboration

You must be part of a team, CAS projects cannot be done as an individual.

A team may be just one partner or more. Team members can be anyone in school, local community, other schools, etc. Other members do not have to be studying the IB Programme.

Role

You should initiate and/or be responsible for one part of your project with a defined role.

CAS strands

A CAS project may cover one, two or all three strands of C, A and S.

It would be unusual for a CAS project to count for C, A & S at the same time but it is not impossible.

One strand is sufficient, two strands would be amazing!

Goals

All CAS projects must be designed with a clear purpose and goals; they should also cover at least one of the 7 CAS Learning Outcomes and you should be able to provide evidence for this.

Reflection

As the project is a significant component of the CAS programme you are expected to reflect in depth about your project and record it on the Experiences section of the MyCAS VLE platform.

Examples of CAS Projects

SERVICE PROJECTS

These can make excellent projects especially when you work alongside community groups/members. You should carefully research your chosen NGO to ensure they are genuine. In any Service project you must demonstrate a genuine need for your project. You must have some autonomy to make decisions within that project and be leading rather than following instructions.

  • Organising a club for students to attend.

  • Planing, designing & creating a mural or performance event within school.

  • Choreographing a routine for X event.

  • Identifying a need in the school/local community & creating something to fill the gap for that need.

  • Creating a service/platform that would benefit the school/local community.
